RPG Roller App Reviews

Ok

Need: 2w6+5 means, you roll 2 dice with 6 sides and then plus 5. And not plus 5 for every dice.

Nice but ...

Its nearly useless in RPG, as it has no Sound! Gamemaster may not believe that you did Roll the dice :(

Great!

Best RPG-dice-roller Ive seen so far with plenty of features. I use it for all kinds of RPG-systems, thanks to the hot buttons which are easy to create and edit.

Best dice roller found

Worth the price. Use it for everything from pathfinder to warmachine.

Does exactly what it claims

This app does exactly what it claims. It is not fancy/flashy dice rolling eye candy. It is a very powerful mechanism to perform one or multiple dice rolls with formulas defining the final result. If you are more interested in playing your RPG (or whatever requires the dice rolls) than watching a dice rolling app, this is what you want. My one "complaint" was received enthusiastically by the developer and dealt with in the 1.1.3 release.

Good for most games, but needs a few more functions.

#1: Seems to crash a lot for some reason. But it loads fast, so its mostly just annoying. #2: Needs some more mechanics. Its not easily usable with the World of Darkness games, for example, as RPG Rollers explosion mechanics dont work for it. The WoD mechanic is called #-again (10 again, 9 again, 8 again). WoD uses a threshold system, rolling a number of d10 and counting 8+ as successes. On most rolls the 10-again rule applies, so any 10s are counted as successes, and then re-rolled as an extra die for the roll. If you get more 10s, you can get more re-rolls. (Example, 4d10 rolled, 1/4/8/10 - you get 2 successes, you then reroll the 10, getting 9 for a total of 3 successes) I know theres at least one threshold system where the 10s counted as two successes rather than rerolling them in any way, but I cant recall the game. #3: The tray cant be set to stay visible for a longer period of time (important if you have to do something the formula cant handle) #4: It would help if the numbers in the tray could be displayed in numerical order - makes it much easier to see if youve botched in certain systems --- Very feature-rich overall, and likely perfect for a great many games, but its easier to just use dice for certain popular games, due to the missing mechanics.

Very good

This is one of the best ones out there. My only request would be to add a feature that allows the number after the modifier (plus, minus, or whatever) to be added only once, and not to each dice. For example, when you write 2d6+5, many RPGs assume that means a numerical range of 7-17, but with this roller its actually a range of 12-22 because the +5 is being added to each die. If there were a way to toggle or change so that the post-modifier number was only added once no matter how many dice were rolled, this would be hands-down the best, most powerful roller available and Id easily pay 10+ dollars for it. UPDATE: Nevermind, I found out the app DOES have this feature! You just need to put spaces before and after the modifier. Thus, 2d6+5 is roll two six sided dice and add five to each, while 2d6 + 5 is roll two six sided dice and add five to the total. This could be stated more clearly in the help section, but thats my only complaint. Amazing app all around.

Great so far

Love the hot buttons feature, great way to organize my characters. Good app so far!

Love the app

Aw man this app is so good me and my mom find it so easy to play DnD thx for the app hope you make more bye

Not impressed

Very bland interface and the formulas Are very buggy, not to mention it crashes randomly.

Optimal

The only dice roller you will ever need. I cant think of a way to compute a die roll that this app cant perform, it allows for quick access to regularly used rolls, provides complete breakdowns of all rolls made, saves history, and will even graph any roll you produce to give you an overall idea of the probability curve. Its not necessarily pretty, and its not necessarily simple to use, but the sheer power and utility of it completely overrides any criticism I can imagine. Incidentally, the nearby review from "Daemon-" is either misinformed or outdated, because the program is amply equipped for Storytelling dice pools.

Woot woot!

Great app! Thanks so much this makes D&D so much easier!

Fantabulous

Excellent resource and its free!! Its worth a couple bucks for sure.

Amazing

Once you understand the mechanism this app becomes so eazy to use and very helpful (use backups their amazing) and the fact that you can erase your data but keep backups so you can make new ones is incredible. I recommend this and take your time to understand how it works.

Organized, Detailed, and FAST fun!

I switched to RPG Roller forever last week! I was able to enter custom formulas on the hot buttons page. I added in all of my skills, coloured the trained skills green, the rest gray, and the poor skills (swim, climb) light gray :). So I have a quick page with my weapon attacks, all my skills and my various weapon damage. I had forgotten to add 4d6 for a spell, and when the GM asked me to roll it, I just went to page 1 where all the dice combos are, and just pressed 4d6. Voila...no time lost! It is amazing how much time I saved, just not having to reach for the dice pouch, single out the dice and roll them. I pressed my tumble button (d20+5), my Attack button (d20+4) and damage (4d6) in about 10 seconds. Left the rope on my dice bag knotted, and never had to look for a missing die. About the app: had some trouble doing 2d8 + 1d6 - 1 but figured out if you space it as I just did, it works. I love having Attack, Attack +2 (charge/flanked) or Attack -2 buttons ready. The app keeps track of your rolls. I just resolved a sequence of events by referencing what happened 2 nights ago. I hope that I can email the stats to myself, but I know there is a backup feature. Feedback for Author: the Hot Buttons page is the key. If it could look any more professional (ie like Dice Ex dice sets page) I would pay for this app. Also, the F function is too bad. It would be nice if there was a way for the GM to check easily, because I dont want to use it, but I also dont want other players to use it :) so the game stays fair.

Plain awesomeness :)

Almost perfect dice simulator

Its the most complete dice simulator that I know. But there is a small bug with the application... when you choose to explode a value and to have a Treshold, for the White Wolf RPG system for instance (i.e. Exalted, Vampire, scion, etc.) it sums the values of the exploded dice and give you one success. i.e.: the treshold is 8 and you want to explode all the 10 on a 10 sided dice. You roll 6 dices and you get: 5, 5, 6, 8, (10 + 2), (10 + 10 + 8). Your application will give you the following: 5, 5, 6, 8, 12, 28 for a total of 3 successes. But, it should give you 5... since eache time that youre rolling more than a 8, it is a value higher of the Threshold, so it should add another success even if Im rolling an exploded dice.

Nifty tool - simple but powerful!

Just discovered the app and have only just begun to use it but it is intuitive and feature rich. Thanks!

best dice roller on the app store!

this is the best dice app i have used. its perfect for dungeons and dragons.

Very impressive

Packs a ton of functionality. Allows for really complicated rolls using the composer to design them. Tracks full history including the individual dice in a formula. If you need a dice roller, get this. You wont regret it.
